Stroll Down the Streets of New York
New York has become sort of the default place for artists, designers and design fans to gather in and celebrate legendary works and soon to be legendary artists. It has become the melting pot of various creative geniuses from almost every part of the world. It houses the world’s top galleries and museums.
The rich history of art in New York is its foundation. Its architecture and the people who breathe and live design. Also, great designs are even more appreciated when the space that surrounds it compliments it magnificently. New York has done that through time.
Sitting in class one day, I was faced with a mind boggling question from my professor. When does a designer show his best? When he is given limitations to work around on and still show ingenuity? Or when he is given all the freedom to create just about anything? Well, I never got an answer but what I had was a thought.
Design is, of course, a skill and a gift that must be honed, must be practiced and appreciated. It requires thoughts, concepts. And to be able to have those, you need to experience things. More than anything in the world, designers love to be emerged in things that inspire them. Things that make their mind roll. If there is a limit that can be put on designers, it would be taking inspiration and ideas away from them.
More than anything, New York has become the cocoon for up and coming artists and the cradle for legendary ones because of the support it’s had from all over the world. With this, I urge that support to continue. New York galleries are a must for designers to take a peek at.
If you’re a designer or even just a design fan, New York is your haven. From the walls, the floors and ceilings, art will be there somewhere. If you long to be a designer, you have to expose yourself to great designs for you to gain a keener eye. Another benefit from this exposure is learning various forms of arts that will inspire you further. You’ll get a picture of how the world works and grows through art and design. Also, bumping into people in and out of galleries and museums will give you a chance to interact with people who, like you, wants to learn and again get inspired to create and/or innovate design ideas. Try and swing by Chelsea, the heart of New York’s art community, where galleries are blended in with a mix of old and new buildings.
But even if you decide to immerse yourself into the other parts of New York, trust me, inspiration is almost on every corner.
